Mongolarachne jurassica by paleosir Mongolarachne jurassica by paleosir
Biggest fossil spider discovered thus far (suprisingly not from the carboniferous, which has almost all other largest arthropods).

It hails from the tiaojishan formation, part of my project to illustrate all known fauna from that formation.

Apparently it's one of the net-casting spiders.

No, it was apparently in the family that contained both net-casters and orb-weavers.

1-That guy is crazy to hold that spider.

2-Spiders in general are scary, the small ones are very toxic and the big ones are intimidating, being extinct or not.

1- Nah, I'd do that too. Venomous animals don't bite that quickly in general. And Nehpila spiders aren't dangerous.

2.-All spiders are venomous, it's just that very small ones can't pierce your skin, however, some spiders have much worse venom than others.
Tarantulas for example, have very large fangs, but not very strong venom (more like bee-venom).

Still it doesn't meter if it has a powerful venom or not, I just think they are scary and I'd keep  my distance if possible :P
