Description

A middle jurassic docodont that is semi-aquatic.
It's name means ''beaver tailed that looks like an otter.'' and it's fitting.

Castorocauda literally looks like an otter with a beaver tail.
It was rough 42cm long, and 500 to 800 grams heavy, very big for a jurassic mammaliform.

It would have hunted fish and amphibians such as Chunerpeton in the lakes and rivers of the Tiaojishan formation (there were plenty of lakes there).

Together with Docofossor and Volaticotherium, Castorocauda shatters the notion of ''mesozoic mammal = unspecialized tiny shrew'', because Castorocauda really was equally as specialized as an otter.
Furthermore, it also shows signs of being fossorial, so it probably dug burrows in the riverbanks.

:) (Smile) Very nice. Magnifying Glass I like how you made the castorocauda's anatomy to be a little bit more along the lines of platypuses to make it more primitive. If not, then I still think it's creative. The length of its' limbs and its' webbed paws and feet are what made me think it looked a little bit like a platypus (besides a beaver), by the way.
